Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish
In July 2021, we "officially" opened the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Center (below). With a number of parishioners and others in attendance, the new Center was blessed by our regional vicar, and tours were provided.
The Parish Center is located in the former St. Teresa of Avila School building at 800 Avila Court, directly across the parking lot from St. Teresa of Avila Church.
Directions to the Parish Center
As you approach the building you will see a doorbell to the left of the main doors. Please ring that for admittance. When you enter the building, you will be greeted by Julie Stiehler, whose office includes the reception desk and window. She will receive you and contact the priest, deacon or staff member you are there to meet, to let them know you’ve arrived.
What is the purpose of the Parish Center?
The Parish Center serves as a central location, or “official headquarters,” for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. All parish clergy and employees maintain their offices there.
The Parish Center accommodates all staff, who now maintain offices in the building. The classrooms are still intact, with blackboards, closets and other amenities remaining in place, and staff workstations have been installed in the classrooms, most of which repurpose existing furniture. In many cases, two or more staff members share offices, which was easy to accomplish given the size of the classrooms. In addition, the Parish Center offers meeting rooms, a reception area and other spaces that allow us to perform our work and parish functions comfortably and efficiently.
Do any clergy and office staff remain in the rectories and offices at the parish churches?
No. Parish priests continue to live in the rectories at OLMC churches, but all clergy and staff maintain their offices at the Parish Center. Resident and retired priests who live in the parish, but are not active as parish clergy, continue to live in the rectories as well. When you have a meeting with a priest or deacon, you will meet with him at the Parish Center.
Do Masses continue to be offered at all the parish churches?
Yes, Our Lady of Mount Carmel is an active, vibrant and growing parish comprising four churches that serves the spiritual needs of its parishioners. While we are now unified as a single, unique parish, all of our churches—St. Athanasius, St. Sebastian, Incarnation of the Lord, and St. Teresa of Avila—continue to offer daily and weekly Masses and Confessions.
Can parish organizations that previously held meetings in individual church halls now meet at the Parish Center?
Yes.
Is St. Teresa of Avila School no longer open/active?
The former St. Teresa of Avila School is closed, as are the other former parish schools at St. Athanasius and Incarnation of Our Lord. St. Sebastian School, now a regional school is part of the North Hills Regional Catholic School District and known as Holy Cross Academy. Holy Cross Academy is located on the St. Sebastian Church footprint.
